UNICAL Postgraduate Admission Requirement

To obtain the application form for the UNICAL School of Postgraduate Studies, candidates must meet specific requirements outlined below:

1. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)
– Candidates must have passed English and Mathematics at the O’ level (WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB) to meet matriculation requirements.
– Graduates who hold at least a third-class honors degree from the University of Calabar or any recognized university are eligible.
– Individuals with a Higher National Diploma (HND) at a minimum of Lower Credit grade from recognized institutions are also eligible.
– Holders of other qualifications, along with relevant field experience considered acceptable by the University, may apply.

2. Master’s Degree
– Candidates must have credits in English Language and Mathematics at the O’ level (e.g., WAEC, NECO, NABTEB).
– UNICAL graduates must have an approved first degree with at least a second-class honors (Lower Division).
– Candidates with a CGPA of 3.00 or higher, or a CGPA between 2.40 and 2.99 with at least three years of post-graduation experience, are eligible.
– Applicants who have obtained a third-class honors degree and possess at least five years of post-graduation experience may apply.
– Candidates must have a Postgraduate Diploma from the University of Calabar or any recognized institution, achieving at least a pass at the credit level.
– Candidates whose degrees are unclassified but have an average grade of C or above may apply.
– Candidates with a Higher National Diploma (minimum credit) from recognized institutions, along with a Postgraduate Diploma (minimum pass at credit level) from the University of Calabar in relevant areas, are eligible to apply.

3. Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) and Master’s by Research Degrees
– Graduates must possess an approved first degree with at least a second-class honors (Upper Division) from the University of Calabar or other recognized institutions.
– A second-class honors degree along with a substantial amount of relevant industrial experience is required.

4. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degree
– Graduates must hold a Master’s Degree relevant to their proposed field of study from the University of Calabar.
– Graduates from other recognized universities must have a master’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5.00 scale.
– Candidates applying for the Ph.D. programs may be required to pass a qualifying examination and/or undergo a probationary period not exceeding 12 calendar months.
