Official List of Courses Offered in Yobe State University (YSU) for 2026/2027
Official List of Courses Offered in Yobe State University (YSU): Are you planning to study at the “Pride of the Sahel”? If you have chosen Yobe State University (YSU), Damaturu, for the 2026/2027 academic session, you are targeting one of the fastest-growing state universities in Northern Nigeria.
YSU is famous for its massive infrastructural transformation and incredibly subsidized school fees (making it one of the most affordable universities in Nigeria). However, because it is a younger university compared to heavyweights like UNIMAID or ABU, many candidates are often confused about which courses are actually accredited.
NOTE: Before you browse the list, you must be aware of the “Medical” reality at YSU to avoid old rumors:
-
MBBS is FULLY Accredited: Ignore old news from 2023 about a ban. The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has restored full accreditation to YSU’s Medicine and Surgery programme. The College of Medical Sciences is now fully operational and admitting students.
-
Nursing is Active: The Department of Nursing Science is active and listed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). It is one of the most competitive courses right now.

Important Admission Secrets for 2026/2027
To secure admission into YSU Damaturu, you need to understand their “Local” policy:
1. The Catchment Advantage
-
YSU is a state-owned university created to serve the people of Yobe State.
-
Yobe Indigenes: You get massive preference. If you are from Yobe, scoring 150 is often enough for most Art/Science courses.
-
Non-Indigenes: You are welcome (especially from Borno, Jigawa, and Gombe), but you must score higher to compete on the Merit list.
2. The Cut-Off Mark Reality
-
General Cut-Off: YSU typically sets a very friendly cut-off of 140 or 150.
-
The “Medical” Exception: Do not assume 150 will get you into Medicine or Law. For these professional courses, you need to score 200 – 230+ to be safe.
3. Direct Entry (DE)
-
YSU accepts IJMB and National Diploma (ND).
-
They are particularly friendly to candidates from the Federal Polytechnic Damaturu and the College of Education Gashua.
