Important Admission Secrets for 2026/2027
To secure admission into UNILORIN, you must understand their unique “Screening Formula.”
1. The “One Sitting” Rule UNILORIN is very strict with O-Level sittings for top courses.
-
You MUST have ONE Sitting (5 Credits) for:
-
Medicine and Surgery
-
Pharmacy
-
Optometry
-
Computer Engineering
-
-
If you combine two results (e.g., WAEC + NECO) for these courses, you are automatically disqualified during screening.
2. The 50-30-20 Admission Formula UNILORIN typically calculates your aggregate score based on three pillars:
-
JAMB Score: 50%
-
Post-UTME Screening: 30%
-
O’Level Grades: 20% (A1 gives you more points than B2 or C4).
-
Tip: This means your WAEC/NECO result is actually part of your “exam” score. If you have many C’s, your aggregate drops significantly.
3. Catchment Area
-
UNILORIN gives preference to candidates from its catchment states: Kwara, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto, and Zamfara.
-
However, the Merit List (45% of admission) is open to everyone nationwide.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Does UNILORIN write Post-UTME exams? Usually, No. UNILORIN typically conducts an Online Screening (Point-Based System) rather than a physical exam. However, always check the portal in August/September as policies can change.
Is Nursing Science accredited? Yes. The Faculty of Nursing Science is fully accredited and admitting students.
Does UNILORIN offer Cyber Security? While they offer Computer Science, the specific specialized degree is Information and Communication Science or the new Artificial Intelligence. “Cyber Security” modules are covered under these, but a standalone B.Sc Cyber Security is often housed under the new departmental structures. Stick to Computer Science or Info-Comm Science to be safe unless the portal specifically lists Cyber Security this year.
